Broadcast Producer - Rugby (MLR)

THE ROLE

We are looking for an experienced Broadcast Producer with deep knowledge of rugby to help drive the editorial and production execution of Major League Rugby broadcasts. This role sits at the heart of the live production workflow—working closely with the director, technical crew, replay team, and on-air talent to deliver compelling and accurate rugby coverage. The ideal candidate understands the pace, tactics, and storytelling opportunities within rugby and can translate the sport into engaging broadcast moments that resonate with both die-hard fans and new audiences. You will play a key role in shaping match coverage, managing production elements during live broadcasts, and ensuring each production runs smoothly from planning through delivery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Live Broadcast Production: Support the execution of live Major League Rugby broadcasts by managing editorial elements, coordinating production teams, and maintaining the run-of-show during live matches.

• Rugby Editorial Expertise: Use strong knowledge of rugby union—including tactics, laws of the game, and match flow—to inform storytelling, replay selection, and broadcast pacing.

• Run-of-Show Management: Build and maintain detailed rundowns and production notes, ensuring all broadcast elements—from graphics to replays—are executed at the right moments.

• Replay & Storytelling Coordination: Work closely with replay operators and the director to identify key moments, breakdowns, and storytelling opportunities throughout the match.

• Talent Collaboration: Coordinate with commentators, analysts, and sideline reporters to ensure accurate and engaging rugby storytelling.

• Production Planning: Assist with pre-production planning including editorial meetings, production documents, graphics requests, and feature coordination.

• Team Communication: Serve as a central communication hub between the director, technical teams, graphics, replay, and production staff during live broadcasts.

REQUIREMENTS

• Rugby Expertise – Strong knowledge of rugby union and professional rugby competitions.

• Broadcast Production Experience – Proven experience as a Broadcast Producer or Live Sports Producer.

• Live Event Skills – Ability to operate effectively in high-pressure live broadcast environments.

• Editorial Judgment – Strong storytelling instincts and understanding of sports broadcast pacing.

• Team Communication – Excellent coordination and communication skills across production teams.

• Experience – Experience working on live sports broadcasts, ideally including rugby coverage.
